KUCHING, 13 January 2026 – Sarawak has recorded total revenue of RM13.5 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, exceeding the State Government's initial projection of RM13.01 billion announced during budget proceedings last year.
The stronger-than-anticipated revenue performance reinforces Sarawak's position as one of Malaysia's most fiscally sound states, with continued capacity for development-focused investments.
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, in disclosing the final figures on Monday, said that additional revenue collections were recorded when State accounts closed at the end of December.
“In the previous budget, I mentioned RM13.01 billion as the expected actual revenue for the year 2025. When the accounts closed in December, there was an additional amount, bringing it to RM13.5 billion,” the Premier said following the launch event of the Smart Classroom and Free School Bus Programme at SJK Chung Hua No. 6, here.
The Premier expressed confidence in Sarawak's fiscal position and cited consistent economic growth as well as disciplined financial management practices as contributing factors to such positive results. The Sarawak’s ability to exceed revenue projections shows the effectiveness of its economic policies and stable governance framework.
This performance follows Sarawak's record-breaking achievement of RM14.2 billion in revenue for 2024, demonstrating the State's continued capacity to generate substantial income despite economic fluctuations. The revenue surplus enables the State Government to implement priority initiatives such as free education schemes, expansion of public transportation infrastructure, and development of smart technology systems for long-term operational efficiency without compromising fiscal stability.
Sarawak's 2026 budget, announced last year, projected revenue of RM13.05 billion against planned expenditure of RM12.91 billion, with a projected surplus of RM144 million. This conservative approach ensures the State retains financial flexibility while meeting development objectives.
Sarawak has maintained high-income status for three consecutive years, With Gross National Income per capita reaching RM73,100 in 2024, which placed Sarawak fourth among Malaysian states. The State continues working toward its goal of achieving high-income region status by 2030, with its development framework prioritising strategic sectors including agriculture, tourism, digital infrastructure, and climate resilience initiatives.
