Sarawak Museum signs MoU with British Museum
The signing of the MoU with representatives from the Sarawak Museum and British Museum.
The Sarawak Museum Department has achieved another milestone in its journey towards becoming a globally recognized institution with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Strategic Partnership with the British Museum, which took place yesterday on November 6, 2024 at the British Museum in London.
The MoU was signed by Sarawak Museum Department Director, Nancy Jolhi, and the British Museum Director, Dr Nicholas Cullinan and witnessed by prominent figures in Sarawak’s tourism, including Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister of Tourism Sarawak, Datuk Sebastian Ting and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts. This agreement, focused on the study of Borneo and Sarawak artefacts housed in museums across the UK and at the Sarawak Museum, paves the way for enhanced collaboration between the two esteemed institutions and underscores the Sarawak Museum Department’s commitment to building international partnerships that highlight the unique history and heritage of Sarawak.Â
The British Museum, one of the most renowned museum institutions in the world, represents a key partner in the Sarawak Museum Department's vision to expand its global presence. This collaboration aligns with the department’s strategic goal of becoming "a globally engaged centre of history and heritage by 2030."Â
This agreement will facilitate joint research initiatives, exhibitions, and cultural exchanges aimed at advancing the field of museology and promoting a deeper understanding of Borneo’s rich history and heritage.Â
