UNESCO Gastronomy Pavilion happening from August 3 to 9, 2026

KUCHING, 5 August 2026: In conjunction with the ongoing 3rd Annual Meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) – Creative Cities of Gastronomy being hosted for the first time in Kuching, the UNESCO Gastronomy Pavilion is happening on the grounds of the Kuching Festival Fair until August 9, 2026.
The pavilion, which was launched on August 3, offers world-class culinary creations from across several continents, allowing visitors to explore for themselves cuisines from UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy, including China (Chengdu, Quanzhou, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China and Mixue), the Philippines (Iloilo), Saudi Arabia (Buraidah and Medina), India (Lucknow) and Brazil (Belo Horizonte).
“It is perhaps one of the few opportunities where the world comes to Kuching, rather than Kuching travelling to the world,” added the Mayor of Kuching South, Dato Wee Hong Seng during the recent launching of the 3rd UCCN Creative Cities of Gastronomy meeting. “For the first time this year, we are also introducing the Tuak Corner, as well as the Tuak Buffet, where 9 local vendors will be showcasing the diversity of Sarawak’s traditional rice wine.”
Vendors include Tuak Bioteknologi Borneo, Honlynn Distillery (Tuaq and Sangkoh), Tuak Sumuk Totoi, Tuak Saban Nyamaiwai, Tuaque, Ceravak, Borneo Tuak, Nelly’s Traditional Tuak and Headhunter Tuak.
Upon the conclusion of the UNESCO Gastronomy Pavilion on the 9th, the Pavilion will continue operating until the 16th, featuring demonstrations by award-winning local chefs. This gives visitors the rare opportunity to not only taste outstanding cuisine, but also observe the techniques, creativity and craftsmanship behind dishes that have earned international recognition.
