Thousands descend upon Padang Merdeka for star-studded Konsert Rakyat 2026
KUCHING, 11 October 2026: Thousands of people flooded Kuching’s Padang Merdeka yesterday to catch the 2026 Konsert Rakyat, held in conjunction with the 80th Birthday Celebration of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun PehinSri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
The concert featured an epic lineup of both local artists and well-known music legends, including Amy Search, Aina Abdul and Floor88, and was attended by over 20,000 people from across the region. Some of Sarawak’s most popular local talents took to the stage first, including Dayana Shini, AguraBand, Carrie Geres, Raquel, Yadee and Ramles Walter, who performed his hits like Hey Kumang and Mr Akai Akai.
One of Malaysia’s most popular bands in modern music, Floor88 performed hit songs like Aqilah, Zalikha and Hutang, while celebrated singer-songwriter, Aina Abdul, known for her powerful vocals and emotional ballads, serenaded the crowd with songs like Semalam, Jangan Mati Rasa and Sesaat.
Rock legend, Amy Search closed out yesterday’s star-studded lineup with nostalgic tunes like Isabella, Cinta Kita, Tiada Lagi and Pawana, with the whole crowd singing along in excitement. The evening was made livelier with a fireworks display at 10.30PM over the Darul Hana Bridge, with impressive pyrotechnics and dazzling colours lighting up Kuching’s nightscape as Sarawak celebrates TYT’s 80thbirthday.
