STB strengthens collaboration with Royal Brunei Airlines

A presentation on Sarawak’s iconic wildlife and ecotourism offerings during the Business Networking Seminar in Taipei.

TAIWAN, 1 September 2026: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) are strengthening their collaboration to unlock greater tourism opportunities across Borneo by bringing together the complementary strengths of Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam.

Both STB and Royal Brunei Airlines recently co-organised the Business Networking Seminars in Taipei and Kinmen from August 25 to 26, 2026, which brought together tourism stakeholders to strengthen industry connections and explore new opportunities tied to Sarawak, Brunei and the wider Borneo proposition. 

The seminar is part of ongoing joint initiatives between both parties across key markets, including travel trade engagements, destination promotions and business networking efforts, which build on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by STB and Royal Brunei Airlines in May 2026. 

“At the heart of this collaboration is a shared ambition to strengthen Borneo’s appeal as a destination in its own right,” said Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board, Dr Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor. “By bringing together the distinct strengths of Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam, we can offer travellers a richer perspective of Borneo, where each destination retains its own identity while contributing to a more connected regional journey.”

As the world’s third-largest island, Borneo holds strong potential as a more connected and compelling regional destination. Through this collaboration, Sarawak and Brunei are being positioned as complementary experiences within a wider Borneo journey, offering travellers greater opportunity to explore the richness and diversity of the island.

Sarawak offers a distinctive mix of culture, adventure, nature, food and festivals, while Brunei Darussalam brings a different dimension through its Islamic heritage, royal traditions and serene destination character. Together, their individual strengths offer travellers contrasting yet complementary ways to experience the diversity of Borneo within a single journey.

Through continued collaboration, STB and Royal Brunei Airlines aim to support stronger regional connectivity, encourage multi-destination travel and build long-term tourism value across Borneo.
