The Kuching finale follows an encouraging response across the first five stops, which collectively attracted 240,000 visitors, surpassing the initial target of 200,000. Total sales also reached RM3.5 million, more than tripling the original RM1 million target.
According to Mohd Roslan Abdullah, Senior Director of Domestic & Events Division, Tourism Malaysia, the Kuching edition represents the culmination of a successful collaboration between Tourism Malaysia and Star Media Group in strengthening domestic tourism and connecting tourism businesses directly with consumers.
He added that the partnership will continue to support future promotional initiatives under Visit Malaysia 2026–2027, with the aim of increasing awareness of local destinations, encouraging domestic travel and ensuring tourism benefits reach communities and businesses nationwide.
Star Media Group Group Chief Executive Officer Chan Seng Fatt also highlighted the importance of domestic tourism to Malaysia's economy, noting that the encouraging response throughout the carnival series reflects the country's diverse tourism potential and its appeal to international visitors.
The carnival comes at a promising time for Sarawak's tourism industry. In 2025, the state recorded 22.7 million domestic visitor arrivals, an increase of 15.8% from 19.6 million in 2024. Meanwhile, Malaysia welcomed 28.8 million international visitors between January and August 2026, while domestic tourism recorded 151.6 million visitors in the first half of the year, representing a 5.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
As the final stop of the six-state tour, Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia 2026 reinforces the importance of making travel more accessible while inspiring Malaysians to discover destinations closer to home.
Whether it is a relaxing island escape, a cultural adventure or a family holiday, there is plenty to explore. Visitors can still catch the carnival at Plaza Merdeka, Kuching, until 1 November 2026 and take advantage of the exclusive holiday offers before the festivities wrap up.
