Sarawak Premier launches Tasik Biru Resort City

BAU, 15 May 2025: The district of Bau marked a historic milestone today with the celebration of its 205th Anniversary, the commencement of the Tasik Biru Festival 2025 and the official launch of the Tasik Biru Resort City. The grand event took place at the Main Stage of Tasik Biru Resort City and was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, in the presence of distinguished guests Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak, Dato Henry Harry ak Jinep and Managing Director of Tecktonic & Sons Holdings, Lee Chin Teck.
In his remarks, Dato Henry underscored the State Government's commitment to advancing Bau's potential as a tourism destination through the Bau Master Plan 2030, which focuses on heritage tourism, eco-tourism, and rural community-based tourism. The Tasik Biru Festival 2025, running from 15 to 25 May, promises 11 days of vibrant and inclusive programmes. Key highlights include the Jong Regatta boat race, arm-wrestling competition, Miss and Mrs Tasik Biru pageants, and a Unity Parade.
In addition, visitors can enjoy exhibitions such as the Gawai Bazaar Bau, 4x4 SAKTA showcase, nightly busking, and cultural performances that reflect Bau's unique identity. The launch of the Tasik Biru Resort City signifies a transformative step in Bau's journey to becoming a leading tourism hub in Sarawak. One of the flagship developments under this initiative is the Bau Gold Museum and Park Complex, aimed at showcasing the town's rich gold mining history as a world-class attraction.
Additionally, the upcoming ICQS Complex in Serikin is expected to catalyse cross-border economic and social growth, positioning Bau as a gateway for cultural exchange and tourism packages with West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The celebration is further enriched with community sports events such as the Bau Sports Carnival, which includes football, badminton, and Zumba activities to promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening community ties. This event not only commemorates Bau's rich historical legacy but also heralds a new chapter of progress mainly one that aspires to position Bau as a sustainable, inclusive and resilient tourism destination, in line with Sarawak's development goals towards 2030.
