KUALA LUMPUR, 25 October 2025 - A new Sarawak Complex will soon take shape in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, offering more than just a place to stay. It's a home away from home for Sarawakian students and a gathering hub for the Sarawakian community in Peninsular Malaysia.
Announced by Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, the project reflects the State Government’s commitment to support Sarawakians pursuing higher education in the peninsula while strengthening their sense of belonging and unity far from home.
“The land has already been identified. What’s left now is to build the Sarawak Complex in the heart of Kuala Lumpur,” said Abang Johari during the Town Hall Session with the Premier at Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2025, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.

The complex will provide affordable, safe hostel facilities for Sarawakian students and act as a community centre for gatherings, cultural events, and networking among Sarawakians in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Abang Johari, the initiative came in response to feedback from last year’s Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak session, where students voiced challenges in finding suitable accommodation while studying in West Malaysia.
“Many Sarawakian students face difficulties securing a hostel or affordable housing after leaving campus. This complex will address that need while standing as a new symbol of Sarawak’s presence in Kuala Lumpur,” he shared.
The Premier said that the complex could be completed within the next three years, marking it as one of Sarawak’s signature community developments outside the State.
Beyond its role as a student hostel, the new Sarawak Complex will also host several Sarawak government offices, including the Sovereign Fund Office.
Abang Johari also revealed that the current Sarawak House on Jalan Tun Ismail will be relocated to the new site, integrating official functions and student facilities under one roof.
He further highlighted Sarawak’s growing economic presence in Malaysia’s financial ecosystem, particularly through the State’s majority stake in Affin Bank Berhad, which provides Sarawak with a foothold in Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) — Malaysia’s premier financial district.
“We will continue to provide facilities for Sarawakians who are contributing to the Malaysian economy. This complex will represent our people, our culture, and our progress,” Abang Johari affirmed.
The Sarawak Complex will be a landmark of pride and a symbol of connection for Sarawakians across Malaysia.
