Perlis: Hidden Gem of Nature and Adventure
Travellers from around the world were introduced to Perlis at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2023 in ExCel London on Nov 7. The Perlis Introductory Session was graced by Secretary General of The Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), Dato’ Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman, Executive Chairman of MYUS Group and Smart Leisure & Travels, Dato’ Nellsen Young, as well as Director of Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board – London, Noran Ujang.
One of Malaysia's 13 states, Perlis is celebrated for its breathtaking natural landscapes. This year marks the start of Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025, a campaign that aims to welcome 3.5 million tourists.
With its theme “The Undeniable Charm,” Perlis is gaining recognition among eco-adventurers and nature enthusiasts. The state is committed to preserving its pristine landscapes and is on a journey to become a premier eco-tourism destination. Eco-tourism, a rapidly growing segment in the tourism industry, offers visitors an immersive experience amid nature.
Perlis offers a diverse range of eco-tourism attractions, including the enchanting Wang Kelian, home to the mysterious Cave of Darkness, the extensive Gua Kelam limestone range that spans 36 kilometres, the rugged terrain of Keteri Hill (Bukit Keteri), and the tranquil Timah Tasoh Lake (Tasik Timah Tasoh). This hidden gem promises breathtaking and unique scenery that will surely captivate explorers.
An exciting addition to Perlis is the upcoming Malaysia's First Rock Climbing Base Camp & Eco-Adventure Hub in Gua Kelam, set to open in 2024 in conjunction with Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025. ClubRock Perlis covers over 23,000 square feet and includes 35 rooms and five premium camps, each accommodating up to four people. With a total capacity of 160 guests, ClubRock Perlis offers a unique and immersive nature experience.
Perlis is also making history by striving to become Malaysia's first recognised Geopark. Currently, there are 23 geosites identified in Perlis, which will be assessed to determine if Perlis will officially become a Geopark. These geosites hold significant scientific value and are a pride for the people of Perak.
At WTM London 2023, Smart Leisure & Travels introduced Perlis to the world with a mission to attract more visitors. An important moment was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Smart Leisure & Travels and GTi Travel Group, witnessed by key figures in the tourism industry. This aligns perfectly with the upcoming Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025 campaign.
