The Mulu Eco Challenge 2026 will be taking place this March 29 at the Mulu Mariott Resort & Spa, as announced by Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (centre) earlier today during a press conference in Kuching.

KUCHING, 18 March 2026: The 3rd edition of the Mulu Eco Challenge will be taking place this March 29, 2026 at the prestigious Mulu Mariott Resort & Spa, further strengthening Sarawak’s position as a leading eco and adventure tourism destination.

Organised by Grit Event Management, the Mulu Eco Challenge 2026 is expected to attract 90 to 100 participants across approximately 25 teams, including international participants from Brunei, Singapore, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia, as announced earlier today during a press conference in Kuching.

Set within the iconic Gunung Mulu National Park, the event offers participants a rare opportunity to experience one of the world’s most unique natural environments through a combination of a 12KM trail run and 5KM bamboo rafting, creating a distinctive eco-adventure challenge.

“The Mulu Eco Challenge is a reflection of the state government’s continuous commitment to developing adventure tourism as a key pillar of our tourism industry. More than a race, the Mulu Eco Challenge is an authentic eco-adventure journey designed to showcase our rainforest, biodiversity and commitment to conservation,” shared Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during the press conference.

The Mulu Eco Challenge is also being positioned as part of the Borneo Raft Safari initiative, a growing platform that showcases Sarawak’s signature river-based adventure events, which includes the annual Padawan Raft Safari and Selangau Raft Safari, as well as Mukah rafting. With a total prize pool of RM10,000, participants will not only compete in Mulu but also stand a chance to be part of a larger adventure series across Sarawak.

“On behalf of the people of Mulu, we are very excited for this event, which will continue to positively impact the area by promoting healthy lifestyles, strengthening eco-tourism and creating meaningful engagement between the community and visitors,” added Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) and Mulu Assemblyman, Datuk Gerawat Gala during the press conference.

The Mulu Eco Challenge is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, the Sarawak Tourism Board, Sarawak Tourism Federation, Sarawak Forestry, Mulu Sub-District Office, Miri District Office, Marudi District Office, Tourism Malaysia Sarawak and Borneo Glamping, alongside Official Airline, AirBorneo, Official Hotel, the Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa and Tech Partner, techlaju.

Also present at today’s press conference, MTCP Deputy Permanent Secretary, Julin bin Alen, Founder of Grit Event Management, Awang Saifeluddin Awangku Karim, as well as representatives from AirBorneo, Borneo Glamping and Sarawak Tourism Federation.
