Inaugural Shenzhen-Kuching flight officially commenced

KUCHING, 9 December 2025: The inaugural direct flight between the Shenzhen city in southeastern China and the capital city of Kuching officially commenced earlier today, marking a milestone achievement in Sarawak’s global connectivity.
Today’s flight from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport landed at the Kuching International Airport at noon, and the 85 passengers were greeted by the Permanent Secretary of the Sarawak Transport Ministry, Dato Wong Hee Sieng, Consul General of China in Kuching, Xing Weiping, Director of Tourism Malaysia Sarawak, Rubiah Tul’Adwiyah binti Haji Md Yusof and Sarawak Tourism Board’s Senior Director of Marketing (Europe and Oceania Market), Maurice Balang.
“The Consulate General of China in Kuching is very welcome to the flights. Shenzhen is an important city in the southern part of China, as it is one of the most developed cities and the first to open the Special Economic Zone. We hope that with the launching of direct flights between Shenzhen and Kuching, more flights between our two countries would be coming in to not only improve mobility, but also strengthen relations,” said Consul General of China in Kuching, Xing Weiping in a press conference earlier today.

“New destinations coming in by Loong Air are currently in the works, namely from Guangzhou, China by March 2026. We hope that with more vigorous promotion by Sarawak Tourism Board, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia as well as Tourism Malaysia, more people from both countries would be more encouraged to travel, and this will hopefully spur the economy in Sarawak, namely in Kuching,” added Permanent Secretary of the Sarawak Transport Ministry, Dato Wong Hee Sieng, who also shared that the Kuching-Shenzhen flight taking place in the evening is at full capacity with 171 passengers.
Direct flights between Shenzhen, China and Kuching, Sarawak is now available weekly on Tuesdays, and takes only 4 hours and 30 minutes.
