Inaugural Borneo 100 Triathlon to take place June 21 in Sematan

The inaugural Borneo 100 Triathlon is set to unfold this June 21, 2026 against Sematan’s lush landscapes, as announced by Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (centre) during a press conference today.

KUCHING, 2 April 2026: The inaugural Borneo 100 Triathlon 2026 is happening on 21 June 2026 in Sematan, and is set to be an exciting international-standard sporting event that brings together hundreds of local and international athletes to the edge of Borneo. 

“Internationally sanctioned by the Malaysia Triathlon Association, the Borneo 100 is a powerful collaboration between the Kuching South Triathlon Club and Grit Event Management, combining community-driven passion with professional event execution,” shared Sarawak’s Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development and Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during a press conference earlier today.

Set against the wild beauty of Sematan, a serene coastal town less than 2 hours away from Kuching, Borneo 100’s swim course will unfold against the calm waters of the South China Sea, while the cycling leg takes athletes through scenic seaside roads and lush countryside landscapes. Meanwhile, the final run will bring competitors along Sematan’s tranquil beachfront – where endurance meets the soul of Borneo. 

In addition to meeting national standards in terms of race governance, safety and competition structure, Borneo 100 will also be professionally timed by SEA Games official timers, placing the event at a higher level not just as a local event, but as a credible and competitive race on the international stage. 

Since the event was open for registrations back in November 2025, the event has received a strong early response, attracting participants not only from Sarawak and across Malaysia, but also from Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Germany, the Philippines, China, Russia and Italy. Registrations will be closed on May 16, 2026, and registrations are expected to hit 350 pax before then.                                               

A total of 4 categories will be held – the Standard Aquathlon (1.5KM Swim, 10K Run), the Sprint Triathlon (750M Swim, 20KM Bike, 5KM Run) and the Borneo100 (1.5KM Swim, 80KM Bike, 18.5KM Run) for individuals, as well as the Olympic Distance (1.5KM Swim, 40KM Bike, 10KM Run) for individuals and teams. 

The Borneo 100 offers a truly unique racing experience, combining open sea swimming, scenic coastal cycling and a flat Pan-Borneo Highway running route that is sure to deliver an authentic Borneo experience!
