Hong Kong movie star, Simon Yam to appear at AIFFA 2025

KUCHING, 29 September 2025: The ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards 2025 will be making its comeback from November 12 to 15, 2025, and will feature the appearance of Hong Kong film legend, Simon Yam!

This was announced earlier today in a press conference by the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. Also in attendance at today’s press conference, renowned players in the film industry including Dato’ Erma Fatima, U-Wei Haji Saari, Datuk Adi Putra, Vanidah Imran and Datin Sofia Jane, as well as the CEO of Sarawak Tourism Board, Sharzede Datu Hj Salleh Askor and CEO of Business Events Sarawak, Amelia Roziman.

A prolific and highly respected actor and producer, the 70-year-old actor has an extensive career spanning 50 years, with critically acclaimed performances in films like PTU (2003), Election (2005), SPL: Sha Po Lang (2005), the Young and Dangerous film series, Ip Man and Ip Man 2. In 2003, Simon also made his Hollywood debut in Lara Croft: Tomb Raide – The Cradle of Life, starring opposite Angelina Jolie. In 2013, the prolific actor turned his hands to directing and has expressed a keen interest in art, even holding a photography exhibition in Hong Kong this year.

The 7^th edition of AIFFA is made more exciting with more activities, exhibitions, workshops and meet and greets! The Event Space at tHe Spring Kuching will see an ASEAN film exhibition and gallery, handicraft bazaar, children’s colouring competitions, meet and greets with ASEAN celebrities and movie screenings at GSC.A new category making its AIFFA debut is the Borneo Documentary Awards, taking place at the Borneo Cultures Museum’s Auditorium on November 14. The auditorium will also see screenings of shortlisted documentaries, business film talks and forum, a scriptwriting workshop by filmmaker Dato’ Erma Fatima, an acting workshop by award-winning actress, Vanidah Imran and even a ‘Pitch Your Film’ session. Members of the public are welcome to attend these events for free!

The 4-day event will culminate on November 15, 2025, where the star celebrity Simon Yam will be at the Kuching Waterfront! After a cruise along the Sarawak River, Simon will be having a meet and greet session with the public at the Godown Amphitheatre at 4pm. Later in the evening, he would be attending the AIFFA 2025 Gala Night, happening at the Colosseum Ballroom at Pullman Hotel Kuching.
