Exploring Expo 2025 Osaka’s Signature Pavilions!

OSAKA, 5 August 2025: BorneoTalk’s second day at the 2025 World Expo saw the exploration of several Signature Pavilions, a series of eight pavilions located in the center of the venue which offers a variety of experiences that combine the real and virtual worlds. These eight pavilions are part of the ‘Brilliance of Life’  project, and explore the Expo’s theme of ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’. Each pavilion is led by a visionary creative, each with their own interpretation of the theme and unique expression of thought that manifest themselves in different ways. We had the chance to explore 4 Signature Pavilions earlier today, including the null2, Playground of Life: Jellyfish Pavilion, Future of Life and Better Co-Being.

The first Signature Pavilion we visited was null2, which was produced by media artist Yoichi Ochiai. Themed ‘Forging Lives’, the pavilion was designed as an interactive structure which digitalises visitors’ bodies which allowed them to engage in dialogue with “Mirrored Body” that organically transforms inside the pavilion. The exterior of the pavilion, however, is no less impressive, as its dynamic mirror-like material reflects the surroundings, visitors and even pulses and responds to the surrounding environment. Our next stop was the Playground of Life: Jellyfish Pavilion, a colourfully striking structure that was produced by musician, mathematician and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) educator, Nakajima Sachiko. Themed ‘Invigorating Lives’, the Jellyfish Pavilion is a symbol of life and creativity and celebrates connecting the world through a variety of learning, play, creation and living revolutions. It abundantly features creative, practical and cross-curricular learning through play that stimulates the five senses. The Future of Life pavilion is produced by Japan’s foremost roboticists, Ishiguro Hiroshi, and is one of the most striking pavilions in the expo. While initially unassuming on the outside, with its black, looming presence and water flowing down the structure, the inside of this pavilion takes visitors on both a visual and auditory journey 50 years into the future, and beyond. By weaving heartfelt stories on life and androids with depictions of humans in the next millennium, don’t miss out on this pavilion and its robots, including the monkey-shaped AIAI and Yamatoroid – an android avatar created especially for Expo 2025 Osaka. Last but not least, the Better Co-Being pavilion, an outdoor pavilion that was produced by Keio University professor, Miyata Hiroaki. Deeply intertwined with the trees of the Forest of Tranquility, the Better Co-Being pavilion is divided into three ‘Sequences’, which can be experienced in any order. The pavilion’s most striking feature is undoubtedly the installation of some 400 wires fitted with dozens of sun-catching crystals that are arranged randomly to symbolize a ‘non uniform collection’ that celebrates diversity. These crystals catch and refract natural light, and combined with timely mists and lighting, visitors can see rainbows, a reflection of how distinct elements can come together in harmony to create new possibilities.
