Sia Sitok Sarawak 4.0: Southern Region

Due to its success and popularity, Sia Sitok Sarawak is back again with its fourth instalment. Let’s take a look at all the tour packages on offer, region by region!

The Southern region of Sarawak consists of Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Simunjan, Asajaya, Serian and Tebedu and offers the most tour packages during Sia Sitok Sarawak 4.0!

This time around, there are 30 tour packages on offer in the Southern Region, including the brand new 2D1N Saloma Jungle Homestay.

A Taste of Sarawak Cooking Class (3 Hrs)

Bako National Park (2D1N)

Bako National Park, the oldest and one of the most popular national parks in Sarawak, offers the perfect introduction to Sarawak’s forest and wildlife. It contains a wide range of vegetation, jungle streams, waterfalls, interesting plant life, trekking trails and coastlines covered with small bays, coves and beaches. Visitors can see wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, long-tailed macaques, Borneo bearded pigs and monitor lizards. You will be able to experience almost desert-like scrub or ‘padang’ on the plateau to lowland dipterocarp forest. Erosion has left some remarkable sandstone formations such as the famous Sea Stack.

Bengoh Dam and Kampung Sting (Day Trip)

It only takes about an hour’s drive from Kuching city to rural and tranquil Padawan; the Bengoh Dam was built as a water catchment for the residents in Kuching. From the jetty at the dam, a half-hour boat ride takes you to Sting, where the villagers have opted to move further up the hill rather than being resettled in the nearby resettlement scheme and are continuing with their age long agricultural practices. This place offers spectacular views and visits to impressive waterfalls.

Brooke Museums – The Brooke Gallery & The Ranee Museum

Brooke Museums is a non-profit endeavour telling the story of one of the most remarkable kingdoms in history: Sarawak and its White Rajahs. The Brooke Gallery at Fort Margherita features a collection of artefacts charting the early days of the State’s historical journey, while The Ranee Museum showcases a unique collection of keringkam, songket and kebarung belonging to the first Ranee of Sarawak.

Bung Jagoi and Wind Cave (Day Trip)

One of the oldest Bidayuh settlements in the Bau area, Bung Jajoi has an established history of over 175 years offers a glimpse into the lives of the community that are gathered in several villages. Visit Wind Cave, named after the cross draught inside the cave, and is home to bats and swiftlets.

Explore Bung Jagoi Heritage (2D1N)

Bung Jagoi is an old village for the Jagoi Bidayuh that has been established 175 years ago after the Bidayuh community fled from the attack at the Bung Bratak. Bung Jagoi village located 280m above the sea level in the Jagoi area. To get to the old village, one must do a trekking. After reach the old village, visitor could meet some of the local and even proceed to the highest peak of Jagoi known as Bung Tesen (360m) which will only take up to 15 minutes trekking from the old village. On the top, visitor could enjoy the surrounding view of Jagoi including the Indonesia border.

Gunung Gading National Park (Day Trip)

Situated some 80 km from Kuching, the Park hosts the iconic Rafflesia, the world’s largest flower. There are trails that lead to waterfalls. The famous Pandan and Siar beaches are a short distance from the Park and time permitting, visit them for a quick dip in the South China Sea.

Irrawaddy Dolphin Morning Cruise (3 Hrs)

The Irrawaddy or snubfin dolphin, inhabits the rivers, estuaries and shallow coastal areas. The Santubong area remains one of the best places in Sarawak to view this unusual looking marine mammal. When seen, they swim and dive around open waters less than 30 metres deep. This trip cruises along the Santubong River and plies the Salak River Delta systems, of which, both flow into the South China Sea. In both, one experience a close-up view of the heavily silted mangrove swamp, a haven for its inhabitants of reptilians to crustaceans and fishes: crocodiles, water monitor lizards, otters, mud skippers, mangrove crabs, prawns, edible jellyfish, shell fish, monkeys and more.

Kg Sting (Bengoh) Adventure Overnight (2D1N)

What was once an 8-hour hike to a Bidayuh Village is now a 15-minute boat ride away surrounded by scenic mountainous backdrops across the majestic Bengoh Lake (1 hour from Kuching). Hike towards Kling Waterfall for a cold dip awaits you while a sumptuous picnic native lunch is being prepared. Thereafter proceed to the picturesque Susung waterfalls. More than 61 species of frogs has been recorded in the Park, which is 1/3 of the total species of frog in Borneo Island. Satang Island Irrawaddy Dolphin Watching (3-in-1)

En route to the island, be on the look out for the shy Irrawaddy dolphins. The Irrawaddy or snubfin dolphin inhabits the rivers, estuaries and shallow coastal areas. World War II Historic tour (4 Hrs)

Not many people are aware that there are several places around Kuching city playing a significant role during the Second World War. The tour started by visiting the museum in the Teacher Education Institute of Malaysia, Batu Lintang Campus. The visit also involved going to see the last remaining buildings from that era in the campus, that is, the barrack used by the Punjabi soldiers, an ammunition store, Japanese cemetery and Heroes’ Memorial.
