Who doesn’t miss working out at the gym, or getting pampered at the spa? It feels like forever since we were able to do these activities. Wait no more, because soon we will be able to jump back into the swimming pool and resume our favourite #RaonRaonSarawak activities!
Starting Oct 1, Southern Sarawak will transition into Phase 3, which means all of Sarawak will be under Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) from tomorrow onwards.
But, wait a minute…
What does Phase 3 means?
Phase 3 is the second last phase under Malaysia’s 4-phase National Recovery Plan. The transitions into these phases signify the gradual ease of movement control measures in the country, made upon key threshold indicators which are Covid-19 infection rate, public healthcare system capacity, and vaccination rate within the community.
Sarawak Phase 3 Overview
The decision to shift into Phase 3 for Southern Zone was announced by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on Sept 27, 2021. This is done after a careful risk assessment carried out by Sarawak State Health Department (SSHD) and the Malaysian National Security Council (NSC), taking into account the threshold values for the three indicators of NRP.
NOTE: Southern Zone (Kuching District, Bau District, Lundu District, Samarahan District, Asajaya District, Simunjan District, Serian District and Tebedu District).
What is allowed in Sarawak Phase 3?
All economic and industrial sectors as well as all other activities are allowed to operate from 5am to 12 midnight under Phase 3 starting Oct 1 (unless stated otherwise in the latest SOP). These are of course in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set by the State’s National Security Council. This means the public can now visit/partake in the following, among other:
- Spa, wellness & reflexology, beauty centres
- Cyber cafés
- Toy stores
- Snooker and billiard recreation centres
- Shrimp fishing
- Gyms, studios for Zumba, yoga and similar activities
- Swimming pool
- Tourism activities and tourist attraction products
Inter-district travel for Phase 3 in Sarawak?
PDRM approval (police permit) is still required for inter-district movement.
Increase of flight schedules into Sarawak
In addition, Minister of Transport Sarawak, Datuk Lee Kim Shin mentioned that beginning Oct 1, the flight frequency to Sarawak would be increased from 22 to 87 flights weekly.
These flights are from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Labuan, and Singapore going to various main destinations in Sarawak like Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
Despite the exemption of mandatory quarantine upon arrival, for fully vaccinated individuals from other parts of Malaysia, the procedure to enter Sarawak via the EnterSarawak still stands, together with negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test (valid for 3 days only).
