A total of 5 media organisations from Sarawak were part of Tourism Malaysia’s ‘Berambeh Ke Malaya: Explore Islands of Terengganu’ familiarisation trip, including BorneoTalk, CATS FM, TVS, Awani Borneo and I Love Borneo.
KUCHING, 17 July 2025: We recently had the opportunity to be a part of a recent Familiarisation trip to West Malaysia, where we joined other travel agents and media organisations from Sarawak including CATS FM, TVS, Awani Borneo and I Love Borneo on a 5-day-4-night ‘Berambeh Ke Malaya: Explore Islands of Terengganu’.

The trip, which took place July 10 – 15, 2025, was organised by Tourism Malaysia as part of efforts to promote Malaysia’s stunning destinations and rich culture to the world. In this trip, we had the opportunity to explore the stunning landmarks of Kuala Terengganu, the underwater oasis of Redang Island and the rich culture of Kota Bharu as part of the Cuti-Cuti Malaysia and Visit Malaysia campaign.

Upon arrival in Kuala Terengganu via AirAsia, participants of the trip had the chance to explore numerous attractions in the city and most notably, take part in the Karnival Candat Sotong or the Squid Jigging Carnival. Organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture through Tourism Malaysia, the carnival is an annual maritime activity that takes place during the peak of the squid season in Terengganu from March to August. During our boat ride out to sea, we saw firsthand how traditional squid jigging is done, how anglers and fishermen from all over the region would head out to the waters in masses, shining their powerful spotlights to lure squids to the surface.

We also explored the clear blue of waters at Redang Island, where we spotted some turtles in the Turtle Bay, checked out the view off the Teluk Dalam viewpoint, and marvel at the coral reefs while snorkelling at Telok Mat Deloh. We made the most of our time in Terengganu by touring the city’s attractions, including Pasar Payang, Crystal Mosque, Rumah Botol, Terrapuri Heritage Village and the Terengganu River Cruise. We also had the chance to sample some local Malay cuisine at numerous restaurants around town, including Terradala, Gossip Kitchen, 2K2L Keropok Lekor and Nasi Dagang Atas Tol.

Special thanks to Tourism Malaysia Sarawak for bringing us along on this familiarisation trip! We had a great time experiencing the local attractions and culture in Terengganu and Kelantan, and look forward to the next one!
