The Waterfront Hotel launches festive feast of warmth, wonder, inclusivity

KUCHING, 25 November 2025: The air was filled with seasonal cheer last night as The Waterfront Hotel hosted its “Let’s Jingle & Mingle – Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve Buffet Dinner Sneak Peek & Appreciation Dinner.” The excitement was definitely felt as everyone gazed upon the beautiful decor adorning the restaurant’s entrance that evoked a comforting sense of “home for the holidays.”

The event, which took place at Café Via Mare, Level 4, was graced by Head of the Early Childhood Development Division of the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak, Salina Bujang, who represented Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah at the juncture. It was launched in the most touching way, beginning with two adorable performances by the children from the One-Stop Early Intervention Centre (OSEIC) Sarawak. Their participation was a beautiful highlight that reminded guests that every child has unique gifts and a voice that deserves to be celebrated. The children and their guardians were invited as special guests for dinner, as part of the hotel’s commitment to inclusive community engagement.

The launching of the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve buffet dinner commenced with Salina ringing the dinner bell. As the doors opened, guests entered the restaurant to find an array of delicious festive fare awaiting, thoughtfully crafted by the hotel’s culinary team.

A FEAST FOR THE SOUL

The preview showcased signature dishes from both the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve menus. The sheer variety of dishes was just amazing! Our personal favourite was the roast chicken, which was exceptionally tender and juicy, complemented with a variety of sauces. We highly recommend the delicious wild cranberry sauce; it struck the perfect balance, as it was neither too sweet nor too tart. This subtler sauce works extremely well with chicken, which is not as gamey as turkey, making the pairing perfect.

For those who prefer something heartier, you will love the roast lamb and beef too. And a trip to this buffet would not be complete without trying the other main dishes, such as beef stroganoff, Singapore chilli prawns, beef lasagna, delicious beef and chicken satays, mussels with turmeric sauce, and whole lot more. Of course, there’s also a plethora of salads, starters, sushi, sashimi, fritters, tempura, and especially their highly praised Sarawak Laksa!

Even the drinks are interesting and seasonal, featuring choices such as cranberry mocktail, hot chocolate with marshmallow, and speciality teas and coffees. Be sure to leave some room for dessert too, because you don't want to miss out on those, especially their yule log, fruit cake, bread pudding, tarts, pies, ice cream, shaved ice, chocolate fondue, and so much more.

COMMUNITY AND COMPASSION

In his welcoming remarks, Managing Director of The Waterfront Hotel, Dato Steve Ng expressed heartfelt thanks to partners and supporters for their continuous support. He said the evening was both a festive kick-off to their Christmas festivity and a moment to honour the relationships that fuel the hotel's continued growth. He emphasised that the hospitality mission of The Waterfront Hotel extends beyond service to relationship-building and community support.

The evening placed a strong spotlight on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Steve highlighted the impactful (and cute) performance by the OSEIC children earlier, saying that the centre provides screening, therapy, and early intervention support for children with developmental delays and special needs. The hotel's commitment to CSR also extends to senior citizens, as 100% of proceeds from Christmas goodies sold during the event will be donated to Rumah Seri Kenangan.

In her text speech read by Salina at the launching event, Fatimah praised the hotel’s commitment to promoting inclusivity. She said that events such as this reflect the warmth of the festive season and “the kindness and generosity of the people and organisations who care about the wellbeing of our community”. She also commended the hotel’s collaboration with OSEIC Sarawak, an initiative close to her heart and the Ministry’s mission.

OSEIC was established by the State Government to provide holistic early intervention and therapy services for children with developmental delays and special needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Highlighting the importance of the OSEIC children's performance, Fatimah said that their participation was “a beautiful example of inclusivity in action - a reflection of how, when given the right opportunities and encouragement, every child can shine”.

She concluded by saying that the partnership demonstrates how the private sector can advance shared goals. The State Government is fully committed to ensuring that no one is left behind, and when businesses step forward with compassion and purpose, “they become powerful partners in shaping a caring and inclusive Sarawak”.
