KUCHING, 5 Dec 2025 – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus has launched its inaugural Industry X Day 2025, a flagship event designed to spotlight student innovation while strengthening collaboration between academia and the creative industry.

Hosted at the university’s Kuching campus, the event marked a milestone for the Faculty of Business, Design, and Arts, bringing together students, educators, industry leaders, and members of the public for a full day of exhibitions, demonstrations, and professional networking.

Industry X Day 2025 showcased outstanding work from the School of Design and Arts, featuring projects from Multimedia Design, Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, and new creative technology disciplines. Visitors explored curated exhibition zones filled with visual communication projects, motion graphics, UX/UI, branding explorations, immersive storytelling, and works powered by AR, VR, AI, and creative coding.

The event’s mission was clear: to create meaningful connections between students and the industry ecosystem. With networking sessions, feedback opportunities, and student–industry interaction points, professionals were invited to mentor emerging talents and explore potential collaborations including future hiring opportunities.

The official launch opened with remarks by  Dean of the Faculty of Business, Design, and Arts, Professor Dr Brian Wong Kee Mun, followed by a keynote address from Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who officiated the event. Distinguished guests were also given an exclusive guided tour of the student exhibition.

Head of the School of Design and Arts, Associate Professor Dr Predrag K Nikolic, emphasised the university’s evolving educational approach.

“We’ve moved beyond industry-driven learning toward industry-linked education, a dynamic model that connects students directly with real projects, real partners, and real opportunities,” he said.
“Industry X Day brings this vision to life. It is a powerful platform where our students engage with industry leaders, showcase their talent, and build the connections that fast-track their entry into the job market.”

Event Chair, Jasmine Ng celebrated a special milestone, the first-ever showcase involving the inaugural cohort of Diploma in Digital Media Design graduates, exhibiting alongside senior degree students.

“It has been incredible watching them grow since their very first semester. I’m very proud of how far they’ve come,” she said, encouraging all design students to continue learning, exploring, and creating beyond the event.

Industry X Day 2025 was made possible through strong industry support, with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) as the strategic partner and Mango Media (China) as the international industry partner. Event sponsors included Sharing Group and AM Global, with additional contributions from Canon, JYW Distribution, and Song Pretty Bell.

The event reaffirmed Swinburne Sarawak’s commitment to delivering programs that meet the evolving demands of Malaysia’s creative and digital industries. Through disciplines such as Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Digital Media Design, Media and Communication, and emerging technologies, the university continues to shape graduates who are ready to innovate, lead, and make meaningful contributions to the sector.
