The SUKSAR IV 2026 press conference held today in Petra Jaya, Kuching.

KUCHING, 23 January 2026: The 4th edition of the biennial Sukan Sarawak (SUKSAR) will be taking place in Sri Aman and Betong this February 5 to 8, 2026, as announced by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during a press conference earlier today.

More than just a sports competition, the 2026 SUKSAR serves as an important talent scouting platform for young athletes with the potential to represent Sarawak at a higher level, like the Malaysian Games (SUKMA). Through SUKSAR, young Sarawakian athletes will be exposed to a high-performance competition, allowing them to test their own capabilities, whether physical, mental or tactical.

“This year’s edition of SUKSAR will take place February 5 to 8, 2026, with Sri Aman and Betong as co-hosts. A total of 11 sports and 105 events will be contested, involving 257 athletes from 4 zones, North Zone (Limbang, Miri, Bintulu), Central Zone (Sibu, Mukah, Kapit), West Zone (Sarikei, Betong, Sri Aman) and South Zone (Serian, Samarahan, Kuching), who will be vying for 105 gold, 105 silver and 135 bronze medals,” shared Abdul Karim during the press conference. “Besides scouting for upcoming state athletes, SUKSAR plays a huge role in solidifying Sarawak’s sports ecosystem, by driving involvement from local sports associations and developing competency of local technical officers.

Betong will be hosting 4 sports (Weightlifting, Cycling, Netball and Taekwondo), followed by 5 sports (Basketball, Petanque, Ping Pong, Softball and Wrestling) in Sri Aman and 2 sports (Sepak Takraw and Karate) in Lubok Antu.

The official opening ceremony will take place at the Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan in Betong on February 4, 2026 at 3PM, with Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas set to attend, while the closing ceremony will take place at Sri Aman’s Indoor Stadium on February 8, 2026 and graced by the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg.

“In line with Sarawak’s aim at defending our title as overall champion at SUKMA XXII Selangor 2026, we need to prove that our athletes can do more than emerge as champions at state-level competitions. They must also be able to compete consistently and maintain their performance at the national level, so that they can make Sarawak proud on the world stage,” added the minister.
