KUCHING, 9 April 2026: The one-day ‘Sinergi Kasih Wanita: Memperkasa Akar Umbi (Sektor Ketiga)’ programme was officially launched by the Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Dato Sri Hajah Nancy binti Shukri earlier today at the Raia Hotel & Convention Centre, Kuching.
Over 300 participants from NGOs across Sarawak was in attendance at the programme to learn about the ministry’s programmes and services under the 5-year policy launched last year, to ensure that they are not missing out on available funding.
“NGOs play an important role in the community development ecosystem in Malaysia, as they have a finger on the pulse of the community. They are agents of change and are complementary to existing government efforts. When the government and NGOs move and work together, the impact is much greater, and more meaningful,” said Dato Sri Nancy in her launching speech.
She also introduced the National Women’s Policy and the Women’s Development Action Plan 2025-2030, which serves as a guide for implementing strategies, programmes and initiatives aimed at empowering women in Malaysia through 4 priority areas – Economy, Leadership, Security and Well-Being. These policies and plans are instrumental in advancing the United Nations’ Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.
More than a document, the policies have taken shape in programmes catering to women. Through the Department for Women’s Development (Jabatan Perbangunan Wanita), the ministry has carried out the Program Perantisan Kepimpinan Wanita (PERANTIS), Skuad Waja and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (WPS). PERANTIS is aimed at opening up a space for women to strengthen their leadership skills and build their self-confidence, while Skuad Waja is aimed at increasing the community’s awareness on issues like bullying, sexual harassment and community security.
“My vision for Malaysian women is clear. I would like to see more women emerge as leaders, be financially dependent and unfettered by any glass ceiling. There is no limit to what women can achieve, and it is our collective duty to ensure that the path is there – and wide open for all,” concluded the minister.
