Savour flavours of the East at Majestic Restaurant

KUCHING, 13 November 2025 – Every Saturday evening, the Majestic Restaurant at Riverside Majestic Hotel’s Puteri Wing takes guests on a culinary journey through Asia with its “Tales of the East” buffet dinner. Curated by Executive Chef Amirudin Jaafar, who oversees both the Puteri and Astana Wings, this weekly affair is a tribute to the flavours, stories, and traditions he encountered during his travels across Asia.

 

Chef Amirudin’s vision for Tales of the East is inspired by his in his desire to share the richness of Asian cuisine with diners in Kuching. The menu, which rotates weekly, features a selection of dishes from Cambodia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Mongolia, Vietnam, and beyond. Among his personal recommendations are the Tom Nurong Muoi Ot (Vietnamese grilled salt and chilli shrimp skewers) and Korean Yangnyeom Chicken.

Guests may also try Mongol Khurga, a robust lamb dish prepared with Mongolian-style sauce, Filipino-style Tapa ning Baka, Nin’niku Miso Yakizakana (Japanese garlic-miso baked fish), and Malaysia’s Ayam Percik Istimewa. Selections such as Manicai Bihoon (wok-fried vermicelli with sweet leaf vegetable, and Peranakan Chap Chye, a medley of napa cabbage, beancurd skin, taucheo, glass noodles, and black fungus, offer balance and variety.


The appetiser and salad spread is equally diverse, featuring Goma Ebi no Sarada (shrimp salad with sesame and teriyaki), Namagaki to Ebi no Remon soe (fresh oysters and prawns on ice), Chuka Idako (seasoned baby octopuses), Chuka Wakame (sesame seaweed), Thai Som Tam, Laotian-style Laab Kai, Yue Shi Xianguo Shala (Cantonese fruit salad), assorted sushi including Tamago Nigiri Zushi and Inarizushi Moriawase, and Dedaun Hijau dan Ulaman, a colourful platter of mesclun greens and raw vegetable crudités served with sambal belacan and assorted dressings.


To warm the palate, diners can enjoy a bowl of Tom Yam Talay, a spicy Thai soup with chicken, seafood, and vegetables, accompanied by Halo Halong Tinapai, an assorted bread basket with butter.

The Tales of the East buffet even has seafood on ice, with items like boiled prawns, mussels and oysters for you to enjoy.

The dessert section offers Lin Chi Kang, a chilled Chinese sweet soup with longan and grass jelly; Kuih Muih Tradisi, an assortment of traditional Malaysian kuih; and Sangkhaya Fak Thong, Thai steamed pumpkin filled with custard. Guests may also enjoy Hanoi Banh Flan (Vietnamese creamy caramel custard), Maganda Ube Panna Cotta (Filipino purple sweet potato panna cotta), Cucur Kodok (Indonesian sugar-dusted banana fritters), Pak Tong Guo (Cambodian steamed white rice cake), and Moat Lone Yay Paw, Burmese-style rice balls stuffed with brown sugar and grated coconut. For a modern twist, the Matcha Chizukeki (Japanese green tea cheesecake) offers a delicate balance of richness and earthiness. Fresh fruit platters and local beverages including coffee, teh tarik, and cordial drinks round out the experience.


Held every Saturday from 6:30pm to 10pm, from now to December 2025, Tales of the East is priced at RM118+ per adult, RM59+ per child, and RM82.60+ for senior citizens.
