MIRI, 27 April 2026: The Miri stop of the Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) programme, which took place at the Miri Stadium from April 24 to 26, 2026, welcomed a total of 23,959 visitors during the 3-day event, demonstrating the effectiveness of the government’s outreach approach in engaging with Sarawakians.

A total of 43 agencies with 147 services were part of the SKS programme in Miri, providing direct access for the community to engage with government agencies and strengthen bilateral relations at the grassroots level. Various activities held include agency exhibitions, health activities, entrepreneurship programmes, knowledge-sharing sessions and awareness programmes.

The programme was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg on April 25, 2026, who shared some exciting plans in the future for the city of Miri in his remarks.

“Our long-term goal is to reshape Miri into a vibrant economic and tourism hub. With the development of a new offshore port and coastal township in Kuala Baram, Miri could one day be transformed into a coastal city akin to Shanghai!” he enthused. He also shared earlier plans of developing Miri Port inland due to challenges posed by the Baram estuary, but ultimately the new offshore port will be built approximately 8KM away from the Baram estuary.

“Existing shipping activities along the Miri River will be relocated to Kuala Baram, allowing for the redevelopment of the Miri Waterfront, which will hopefully beautify the city and improve living environment for residents,” said the Sarawak Premier.

Also present were Deputy Premiers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister for Transport Sarawak, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin and Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

The next stop for the Sarawakku Sayang programme will be in Bintulu at the Old Airport Site on May 22 to 24, 2026.
