MIRI, 13 June 2025: Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah paid a visit earlier today to the Miri Handicraft Centre, where the second edition of WAK Miri Festival is being held from June 13 to 15, 2025.
Described as a citywide celebration of arts, culture and lifestyle, WAK Miri features a rich mix of performances, exhibitions, workshops and community-driven showcases, including the All About Arts: Elements of Nature (a stunning visual arts exhibition focusing on nature-inspired works by local artists), Music Portal (a curated platform for local musicians and bands to perform live), Emily of Emerald Hill (a powerful solo theatre performance of the iconic Peranakan monodrama, brought to life in Miri for the first time), Creative Marketplace (a showcase of Sarawakian craftsmanship, lifestyle products and culinary highlights) as well as workshops and fringe activities, which includes community-based sessions in storytelling, heritage crafts and movement arts held across various locations in Miri.
“I commend the Miri creative community for stepping up and taking part in this exciting WAK Miri edition. I urge all arts, culture and lifestyle lovers to come out and enjoy the amazing performances and programmes staged by our talented local artists. Congratulations to the WAK organisers for once again putting together a fantastic satellite festival for Northern Sarawak,” commended Dato Sri Abdul Karim during his visit.
WAK Miri is part of the larger WAK Festival movement, which has become a key driver of community-led creative expression in Sarawak. The main 7th edition of WAK Festival will take place throughout the month of October 2025 at numerous locations throughout Kuching.
