KUCHING, 30 May 2025: The Asia Carbon Conference (ACC) 2025 was officially launched yesterday by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Haji Johari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching. This landmark event, which concludes today, brings together over 300 delegates from across Asia and beyond, including policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and sustainability experts to engage in meaningful discourse on climate action and green economic transformation.
Organised by Argus Media, the ACC 2025 is hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty) and supported by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak). This event serves as a strategic platform to drive Asia’s low-carbon transition, and features in-depth sessions on carbon management, emissions reduction strategies, renewable energy potential in Asia, and industrial solutions for carbon removals and emission control. Strategic partners and exhibitors are also showcasing cutting-edge innovations in nature based and climate solutions, and energy transition technologies.

In his keynote address, the Premier reaffirmed Sarawak’s commitment to building a sustainable low-carbon economy powered by green technology, renewable energy, and carbon market innovation. He highlighted Sarawak’s leadership in carbon capture and storage (CCS), sustainable forestry, and the development of a robust carbon trading framework that positions the state as a regional hub for climate solutions.
“Today, Sarawak stands not only as a beacon of sustainability within Malaysia, but as a regional leader in climate action and green economic transformation. Through bold vision, innovative policy, and unwavering commitment, we have surpassed our 2030 target of 60 percent renewable energy for installed power capacity ahead of schedule and we have embedded biodiversity into our development framework. With the launch of the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, we are charting a clear, inclusive, and actionable path toward a net-zero future. This is not just Sarawak’s journey, it is our collective contribution to the planet and to future generations,” said the Premier.

A major highlight of the event is the official launch of the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030. The Blueprint is a strategic roadmap that outlines Sarawak’s long-term vision and practical strategies across three core pillars: Economic Growth and Prosperity, Environmental Stewardship, and Healthy, Resilient, and Inclusive Communities. It serves as a guiding document for aligning cross-sector efforts with Sarawak’s green development goals.
Jamie Balderston, Executive Vice President for Asia and Chief Marketing and Conferences Officer at Argus Media, said, “This conference is more than just a dialogue. It is a platform to drive measurable action, encourage cross-sector collaboration, and accelerate Asia’s transition to a carbon-neutral future.”
