Nordic Pavilion – The best of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway & Sweden
The wooden structure of the Nordic Pavilion, inspired by traditional barns.
Hailed as the largest joint Nordic promotional event in a decade, the Nordic Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka brings together 5 countries - Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – under one roof to showcase their shared values built on trust and sustainability. Located in the Empowering Lives zone just opposite the Water Plaza, the Nordic Pavilion is a dark wooden structure with a distinctive gabled roof and a beautiful pattern of white elements on the façade, which brings to mind thoughts of the aurora borealis, stars and snow.

The Nordic Pavilion is designed by Italian architect Michele De Lucchi and AMDL Circle Studio and built by RIMOND under the theme ‘Together Towards a Better Future’. Shaped like a traditional Nordic barn, the 3-story Pavilion covers an area of 1,000 sq m and stands 17m tall, evoking an expression of functional simplicity and harmony with nature. With sustainability at the core of its architecture, the Nordic Pavilion is designed to keep out rain while still allowing natural breezes, which minimises the structure’s reliance on air-conditioning.

Inside, visitors are treated to the ‘Nordic Circle’, which showcases Nordic values of cooperation, trust and sustainability through immersive storytelling and interactive design. Images of Nordic lifestyle, culture and nature are projected onto recycled paper screens made of rice, which are arranged in such way reminiscent of schools of fish or flocks of birds. The projected visuals flow in sync with an original score composed by Icelandic musicians Sindri Már Sigfússon (Sin Fang) and Kjartan Hólm.

Around the ‘Nordic Circle’ are stations of story-telling spaces that explore the uniqueness of each Nordic country, from technological innovations to social equity. Each story answers key narratives about how countries in the Nordic region work together to form one of the world’s most integrated regions.
