Malaysia Day 2026 Exhibit happening from September 10 to 16 at Plaza Merdeka
KUCHING, 10 September 2026: The Malaysia Day 2026 exhibition is happening from September 10 to 16, 2026 at the Main Atrium of Plaza Merdeka in conjunction with the 2026 National-Level Malaysia Day Celebrations in Kuching, and is aimed at deepening public appreciation of the significance of Malaysia Day, igniting patriotic spirit and fostering a sense of pride in being a Malaysian.
The exhibit is based on the ‘Malaysia Formation Era Corridor’ concept, and features 5 key segments: Timeline, Documents, Committees & Commissions, Important Figures, and the Malaysian Identity. These segments not only explore the chronological history, important documents and figures vital to the formation of Malaysia between May 27, 1961 and August 9, 1965, but also elements of the Malaysian identity, including the history of the Jalur Gemilang, the Rukun Negara as well as the logo and theme of the 2026 celebrations.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors will also have the chance to participate in nation-themed quizzes and Kahoot sessions, watch PENTARAMA performances and observe document conservation demonstrations by the National Archives, making learning history more engaging and interactive for the public.
In addition to the main exhibition in Kuching, mini-exhibitions celebrating Malaysia Day are also being held across 10 divisions across Sarawak, as well as additional locations in Sabah and Putrajaya. Members of the public are invited to visit these exhibitions to gain a deeper understanding of the history of Malaysia’s formation and to celebrate the spirit of unity in conjunction with the upcoming Malaysia Day.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department, (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol was present earlier today as the exhibition’s first visitor, and was accompanied by the Director of Jabatan Penerang Malaysia, Sabri Said and Director of the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan.
“The Malaysia Day 2026 Exhibition is a tunnel of history, and one of the most important segments of this exhibition is the documents on display, most notably the Proclamation of Malaysia document which officially declared the formation of the Federation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963. We must remember our history, put aside our differences and build on our sense of national unity, as anak Malaysia,” said Datuk Abdullah in a press conference after his walkabout.
