KLDEX Opens in Kuala Lumpur as Asia’s First Integrated Durian Experience Centre

KUALA LUMPUR, 4 July 2026: Kuala Lumpur is set to welcome a new cultural tourism landmark with the official opening of the Kuala Lumpur Durian Experience Centre, better known as KLDEX, on 4 July 2026. Positioned as Asia’s first and largest integrated durian experience centre, KLDEX brings together Malaysian durian heritage, immersive storytelling, food, retail, and education under one roof.

Located in Kuala Lumpur, the centre spans 20,451 square feet and is designed to introduce both local and international visitors to the deeper cultural story behind Malaysia’s most iconic fruit. More than just a place to taste durian, KLDEX aims to help visitors understand the history, varieties, cultivation, traditions, and modern tourism potential of Malaysian durians.

Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and Tourism Malaysia, KLDEX is co-founded by Ang Kean Wee and Edison Ang Wei Phang, and developed by MyBolehBoleh. The project reflects a growing effort to position durian not only as a premium agricultural product but also as a symbol of Malaysian culture and identity.

At KLDEX, visitors can explore a durian museum featuring historical archives, interactive exhibits, and immersive content. The centre also includes a durian orchard experience zone, where guests can learn about orchard ecosystems, cultivation methods, and the journey of durian from farm to table. For those seeking a more theatrical experience, KLDEX offers an immersive theatre performance inspired by Malaysian durian culture, combining drama, choreography, rap, and music.

In addition to its cultural and educational attractions, KLDEX also features food and beverage offerings, retail spaces, and durian-themed souvenirs. Visitors can enjoy durian-inspired food and drinks while discovering products that celebrate Malaysia’s durian heritage in a modern and accessible way.

The opening of KLDEX also marks the launch of the Malaysia Durian Festival 2026, themed “One Durian. A Whole Malaysia.” The festival presents durian as more than a fruit. It celebrates it as a cultural and tourism symbol that connects communities, industries, and visitors through shared experiences.

Through tasting sessions, cultural activities, workshops, educational content, industry engagement, and tourism promotion, the Malaysia Durian Festival 2026 aims to strengthen durian tourism as part of Malaysia’s broader cultural tourism offering. The festival brings together farmers, exporters, tourism stakeholders, cultural partners, content creators, and local businesses, creating a platform for collaboration across the durian and tourism ecosystem.

Starting at KLDEX, the festival is envisioned to expand to more cities and international markets, including China. This broader vision reflects Malaysia’s ambition to share its durian culture with global audiences while supporting local industry players and preserving the stories behind the country’s most distinctive durian varieties.

“Our vision is to safeguard Malaysia’s durian cultural heritage and systematically document the stories behind distinctive Malaysian durian varieties such as D24, Musang King, and Black Thorn. Although Malaysian durians are renowned around the world, these precious stories are rarely told in full,” said Edison Ang, Founder of MyBolehBoleh and Co-founder of KLDEX.

With its combination of museum exhibits, immersive theatre, orchard education, food, retail, and cultural storytelling, KLDEX offers a fresh way to experience Malaysian durian. It is not simply a destination for durian lovers but also a new cultural attraction for anyone interested in Malaysia’s food heritage, tourism experiences, and local stories.

As KLDEX opens its doors to the public, it represents a new chapter for Malaysia’s durian industry—one that celebrates taste, tradition, education, and tourism in a single destination. For visitors to Kuala Lumpur, KLDEX offers a unique opportunity to experience the world of Malaysian durian in a way that is informative, engaging, and deeply connected to the country’s cultural identity.
