KUCHING, 6 April 2026: ‘Jangkar’, a dual-timeline action movie with historical and horror elements directed by Jason Chong, is set to commence shooting tomorrow in locations across Kuching, Lundu and Bau.
This was announced earlier today during the movie’s filming launch at the Waterfront Hotel in Kuching, which was attended by the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, as well as the cast and crew of ‘Jangkar’, including Director, Jason Chong, Producer, David Teo, Action Director, Ayez Shaukat and cast members Datuk Tarmimi Siregar, Yusof Hashim, Fikry Ibrahim, Noki K-Clique, Alieff Irfan and Cristina Suzanne.
The plot of the movie revolves around an incident which took place on March 26, 1972. On the way back after an assignment at the Biawak Border Coalition Post, 15 members of the Malaysian Armed Forces, part of the 7th Royal Ranger Regiment, were killed during an ambush by a group of communists, while 4 others were left injured.
“The 1972 event, which took place near Kampung Jangkar, is one of the worst massacres of our armed forces in Sarawak - 15 lives lost in a single incident. I hope that with the shooting of this movie, moviegoers all over Malaysia will not only learn more about our history, but learn from the incident, and appreciate the peace we experience today,” shared Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim in his launching speech.

According to the film producer, who is also owner of production company Metrowealth International Group (MiG Pictures), David Teo, the movie has been in the pre-production stage for 2 years, and is expected to cost RM6 million, including promotions. “This is also my first time producing a movie based on a historical incident, and we’re hoping to release it sometime in 2027.”
“With 2 years of preparation works and training for cast members, we are looking at a total of 45 shooting days, not including the time it’ll take to travel between locations. Sarawak is a beautiful place for shooting films, and we will be in locations around Kuching, Lundu, Jangkar Camp, the Jangkar Memorial as well as parts of Bako,” added film director, Jason Chong.

Meanwhile, the movie’s action director, Ayez Shaukat, who is also part of the cast, shared that the action sequences will be done with realism in mind. “This is a movie designed to immerse viewers in the hardships of war, not glamourise it. With present global issues, we hope that this movie will not only serve as an anti-war campaign, but also instil a sense of patriotism in the younger generations.”
The movie ‘Jangkar’ is a collaboration between MiG Pictures and MTCP, and supported by the Sarawak Tourism Board and National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
