Inaugural Borneo Blockchain Conference (BBC) 2025 launched!

KUCHING, 9 October 2025: The inaugural Borneo Blockchain Conference (BBC), which is taking place at the Borneo Cultures Museum in Kuching from October 9 to 10, 2025, was officially launched earlier today by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
The 2-day conference brings together 28 distinguished speakers from across the region, including experts from Singapore, Thailand and China, who will be sharing their practical expertise in digital market. It will also feature concurrent sessions on policy, industry applications and technical innovation alongside keynote speeches, panel discussions and workshops.
Organised by the Kuching Blockchain Technology Association (KBTA), the Borneo Blockchain Conference aspires to become a premier platform for professionals, policymakers, researchers and innovators across the blockchain and digital technology ecosystem, armed with the goal to connect ideas, inspire collaboration and spark meaningful partnerships that will shape the digital future of Borneo and beyond.
“This year’s theme, “From Rainforest to Blockchain: Building a Greener, Smarter Borneo,” captures the essence of what we envision — a future where technology and sustainability go hand in hand. Over these two days, we will explore how blockchain and emerging technologies can drive sustainable development, digital transformation, and smarter ecosystems throughout the region. The conference programme is built around two key pillars — Engage and Educate — focusing on aligning technological innovation with community impact, policy development, and business growth,” said KBTA President, James Gan in his welcoming remarks.
“With our ambitious drive towards a digital economy, Sarawak doesn't just have potential; we have a unique strategic advantage. We have a trifecta of assets that makes us a potential blockchain powerhouse: an abundance of clean, sustainable energy to power the infrastructure of tomorrow, high-speed connectivity and a young, tech-savvy, educated population and critically, a forward-thinking state government that champions digital transformation, demonstrated by their incredible support for this very event. It is my sincere hope that this Borneo Blockchain Conference will serve as a springboard—to build awareness, to foster collaboration, and to inspire the next blockchain unicorn to be born right here,” shared the Head of Scientific Committee for BBC 2025, Reuben Yap.
“The rainforest of Sarawak is both a reminder of our responsibility — to protect, to sustain, to honour our environment — and a metaphor for resilience, intricate systems, diversity, and ecosystem balance. Blockchain, in its own way, can mirror those qualities: distributed, self-organising, robust, and transparent. As we push toward 2030, and pursue the lofty aims of PCDS 2030, let us not view blockchain simply as a technology trend, but as a strategic enabler — one tool among many — to deliver better governance, stronger economies, inclusive societies, and a greener environment,” said Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim in his keynote address.
The launching ceremony also saw the signing of 3 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs), between University Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak and Metadise Sdn Bhd, KBTA and Access Blockchain Association Malaysia (ACCESS Malaysia) as well as Youniverse Games Sdn Bhd and Metadise Sdn Bhd. The conference will also feature an exhibition zone, hosting exhibitors such as Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Dong Luo Data, Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), Firo, Nexus, Luno Malaysia, Cryptobilis, Janjilah, A11Yverse and others.
