With London Craft Week coinciding with the coronation of King Charles III, Malaysian craftsmen are garnering a great opportunity for their skills and crafts heritage to be seen on an international platform and by leaders worldwide.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was inspecting the London Craft Week exhibition site at The Malaysian High Commission, UK which sees Malaysia’s participation under the patronage of Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
With such a prominent platform to showcase their arts and craft coinciding with the royal coronation of King Charles III, this edition of London Craft Week offers Malaysian craftsmen significant visibility and opportunity to showcase their skills and crafts to the world.
“London Craft Week is a very meaningful event for the artisans and craftsmen who are participating. For an event that first began in 2015, this year there will be around 700 artisans participating and showcasing their work at high commissions, embassies and various venues spread out across London.
“In view of King Charles III coronation, and other events happening which sees more than 100 heads of state converging in London, furthermore, the environment is very lively indeed,” Abdul Karim said in a video post on his Facebook page.
Sarawak will be displaying exceptional crafts and rich cultural heritage to the world at London Craft Week 2023, which will end on 14 May 2023. With four Sarawak craft artisans doing live demos of Keringkam embroidery, Pua Kumbu weaving, basketry weaving and ceramic beading, the event is expected to attract over 3,000 international visitors who would have the opportunity to learn about the history and significance of each craft to Sarawak’s unique ethnic groups.
Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib are expected to make an official visit to London Craft Week with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
