Delivering her opening speech via a virtual live call from Kuching, Sarawak, the Minister recalled on Malaysia’s longstanding involvement in ITB Berlin—a platform for travel professionals to connect, share insights on the travel trade industry.

“It is our great pleasure to have this opportunity for Malaysia to participate once again in the event for the 48th time. Our memories with ITB Berlin dated way back when we were among the first 13 foreign national tourism organisation (NTOs) that supported this prestigious event, leading up to today, where we are now a part of its first completely virtual fair,” she said.

“Joining us in this year’s virtual participation are 30 Malaysian organisations consisting of 10 tour operators, 10 hotels and resorts, 7 state tourism boards and 3 tourism associations,” she added.

Emphasising on digitalisation and smart partnerships as the way forward for the tourism industry, Nancy mentioned that Malaysia will have a virtual café corner in ITB Berlin NOW. It is where participants and delegates can catch up with Malaysian travel experts and get first-hand information on the country’s destinations and attractions.

“Our participants are ready to share with you the updates on Malaysia’s health tourism, wildlife, niche products and accommodations, just to name a few,” she said.

Besides that, the Minister also shared the various initiatives that Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) are doing to gradually revitalise the country’s tourism industry and welcome back international tourists once the borders are reopened. Among them are the recent launch of National Tourism Policy (NTP) 2020-2030; maximising existing resources through ecotourism, rural and experiential tourism, as well as enhancing our niche products.
