Expo 2020 Dubai Opening Ceremony: Global Stars to Headline

The highly anticipated Expo 2020 Dubai is just days away from its Opening Ceremony.. To be held on September 30th at the iconic Al Wasl Plaza, the opening ceremony is set to be graced by internationally-renowned artists and regional talents for a ground-breaking performance coupled with stunning visuals and music.

Global artists and regional talents to open Expo 2020

Among those who are going to perform are world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli; Golden Globe-winning actress, singe and songwriter Andra Day; Platinum-selling British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding; four-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo and international mega-star pianist Lang Lang.

The glittering line-ups that focusses on the region’s creative talent includes ‘Artist of Arabs’ Mohamed Abdo, much-loved Emirati singing sensation ‘Fananat Al Arab’  Ahlam Alshamsi; Emirati Artist and Expo 2020 Dubai Ambassador Hussain Al Jassmi, rising UAE singer-songwriter Almas; and Grammy-nominated Lebanese-American singer Maysaa Karaa.

Connecting Minds, Creating the Future

Themed ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, the opening ceremony is not one to miss out! 

It will take spectators on an incredible journey across its subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability, showcasing the deep-rooted values of the UAE and the vision and purpose of the Expo, while welcoming the mega-event’s 192 participating countries in spectacular fashion.   

According to Expo 2020 Dubai Chief Event and Entertainment Officer Tareq Ghosheh, the incredible evening is a spotlight to the UAE, as it will celebrate the collaborative, creative and optimistic spirit of Expo 2020, demonstrating our commitment to hosting a mega-event that will delight the world.

“Combining some of the most sought-after names in the world of music, live events and entertainment with the awe-inspiring, world-first technologies of the iconic Al Wasl Plaza, this is the ‘big bang’ that sets the scene for 182 days of visually striking and emotionally inspiring experiences, as we invite visitors from across the planet to join the making of a new world,” he explained further. 

 

6-month long of excitement

Running for 182 days, from 1st October 2021, to 31st March 2022, Expo 2020 will showcase the best of art, culture, technology, music and architecture from around the world. 

The largest event to be held in MEASA (Middle East Africa and South Asia) region will unite more than 200 participants, including 192 countries, as well as institutions and organisations. “Expo 2020 will enable millions of people to experience the world in one place, explore new frontiers and embrace opportunities for tomorrow,” said Expo 2020 in a media statement. 

There is something for visitors of all ages, and interests, from the jaw-dropping outdoor night-time light festival kaleidoscope, to gathering the world’s brightest minds for the Programme for People and Planet, and adrenaline-boosting sporting programme.

COVID-19 rules in Expo 2020 Dubai

You don’t need to be fully vaccinated to attend Expo 2020 Dubai. Non-vaccinated ticket-holders can get themselves PCR-tested FREE of charge adjacent the expo site. 

But you do need to wear a mask and practise social-distancing to explore the grounds. There will be thermal cameras all around the grounds. More information here

 

Tickets to explore Expo 2020 Dubai

There are three types of ticket passes:

  • Dhs95: One-day pass
  • Dhs195: 30-day pass
  • Dhs495: 6-month pass
