The island of Langkawi is a popular beach destination, for good reason! With its duty-free status, stunning landscapes, turquoise waters and historical legends, it’s no wonder this archipelago of 99 islands is one of the most visited places in Malaysia. Langkawi has many treasures, but one underrated gem is its diverse cuisines!
With a mix of Malay cuisine as well as neighbouring Thai influences and the influx of Western tourists, Langkawi offers a stunning array of delectable gastronomy and we’re here to help you to the island’s best eats!
1. Cili Kampung
The hype is real! Whenever you visit Langkawi, one of the most recommended spots is Cili Kampung, and for good reason! With a relatively small menu of only five different types of mains with your choice of protein, Cili Kampung serves up authentic Negeri Sembilan cuisine derived from the owner’s own family recipes, but elevated. We highly recommend their Smoked Beef Masak Lomak and their Ayam Masak Kicap!

Tucked in a corner of Pantai Tengah is Hidden, a Western spot great for hangouts, especially during the evenings! With a marvellous view overlooking the sea, this beachside eatery and bar is a popular place to be during sunsets. However, its nightly fire-shows are a must-see. Indulge in their many offerings of tacos, pizzas and milkshakes while you’re at it!

Get ready for one of the best Thai meals of your life! Located in the town of Kuah, Wan Thai serves deliciously authentic dishes like Pandan Chicken, Deep Fried Soft-Shelled Crabs and Assam Prawns, but one of their most talked about dishes is the Otak Otak! Served in a young coconut, this seafood fiesta is a must-try!

Oh boy, do we have the dinner spot for you! Wonderland Seafood is relatively popular, even among locals for their no-fuss, Chinese-style seafood offerings at affordable prices. 6. Scarborough Fish & Chips
Located in Tanjung Rhu, Scarborough is a popular stop for tourists on their way back from mangrove tours at the nearby jetty. With a simple menu divided into fish and non-fish, their signature menu is the fish and chips, featuring the silky loin of Nile Perch fish, encased in a tempura batter. However, if you’re not into fish, an underrated pick in this joint is their perfectly fragrant Fried Rice!
