Hokkien Mee might not be as famous as other staple Sarawakian noodles like Mee Kolok or Mee Sua, but it is a delicious cuisine that is enjoyed by Sarawakians.
If you aren’t a certified Kuching foodie, it can be a great endeavour to find any kinds of Hokkien Mee as they cannot be easily found in normal kopitiam or food court in Kuching. But there are places that sell this delicious dish that is if you know where to find them!
So, to make things easier for you when it comes to deciding where to eat next (ugh, the toughest question ever!), here is a list of some hawker stalls and restaurants that serve hokkien mee.
Hokkien Fried mee @ i-Cafe
i-Cafe might be the go-to place for its signature Mee Siam. But the outlet also serves Hokkien Mee! The highlight of the Hokkien Fried Mee (RM8 special; RM6 regular) here is that it is served in a dark-sauced broth— we’d like to call this as the local twist version to Hokkien Mee.
If you know Hokkien Mee, you’ll know that it is normally served as a dry delicacy.
Our advice? Don’t wear white whenever you come here for a bowl of Hokkien fried mee!

KL Hokkien Mee @ CX Café Sekama
Those from the Western counterpart of Malaysia will know how hard it is to find a well-cooked KL Hokkien Mee in Sarawak. But they do exist… in one of the stalls at CX Café Sekama!

If you don’t know what KL Hokkien Mee is, it is Kuala Lumpur’s version of Hokkien Mee that is especially famous for its dark, caramelised sweet sauce with lard, slices of chicken or pork in its ingredients. Some say the Hokkien Mee here is even better than the ones in KL! Oooohhhh…

KL Hokkien Mee @ Hao Jing Café
At Hao Jing Café in Kota Sentosa, you will find a stall named Ho Kee Fried that serves what seems to be arguably the best KL Hokkien Mee in Kuching. Some say the Hokkien Mee here is just as good as the ones in KL!

KL-style ‘Hokkien Fried Mee’ @ Premier 101 food center
Premier 101 Food Center is another place you can go to whenever you crave for that fragrant KL Hokkien Mee. As one of the signature food in the food court, the Hokkien Fried Mee (RM10) served here is everything ‘KL Hokkien Mee’ that you can expect: stir-fried with homemade black soy sauce recipe, mixed together with pork and meat slices, prawn and vegetables.
Rumour has it that it is one of the best places to have KL Hokkien Mee in Kuching!

Singapore Hokkien Tiger Prawn Noodles @ B&B Kitchen
If the normal dark sauce Hokkien Mee doesn’t tickle your tastebuds, perhaps the Singapore variant would!
Now what’s the difference between KL Hokkien Mee and SG Hokkien Mee?
The Singapore version has a lighter colour (using white sauce), consist of egg/rice noodles that is stir-fried with prawn as its main ingredient, which is complemented with slices of chicken or pork.
The SG Hokkien Noodle (RM10/RM12/RM20) at B&B Kitchen is a bit on the pricier side, that is if you choose to have the most amount of prawns included inside your noodle. But they’re definitely worth it!

Penang Prawn Hokkien Mee @ Siang Siang Corner Tabuan Jaya
If you prefer eating noodles that is rather soupy, the Penang version of Hokkien Mee would be one to your liking.
What accentuates Penang Hokkien Mee is that it is not dry at all like the other Hokkien Mee variants/ The star element of Penang Hokkien Mee is its spicy prawn broth, making it an easily distinguishable cuisine.
In Kuching, you can find Penang Prawn Hokkien Mee at one of the biggest food courts in Tabuan Jaya, Siang Siang Corner. Other Penang cuisines that you can find here is the Char Kway Teow.
