The Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) is back, this time with more excitement. For one, the festival will see an appearance by Hollywood action star Steven Seagal at its Gala Night and a meet-the-fans session on the same day. The city of Kuching will also be abuzz with activities and the city will be glittering with stars coming together for this exciting festival, which is on its 4th edition this year.
Planning to come experience the festival? Here’s how you can enjoy AIFFA 2019 to the fullest:
Catch free movie screenings
Make your way to the Old Courthouse Auditorium from 10am to 8pm daily during the festival to watch ASEAN movies that have been shortlisted for the awards. It’s absolutely free, so knock yourselves out! There will also be Q&A sessions with directors and cast of the movies screened.
Get hands-on experience
Join the AIFFA Starcraft workshop sessions, taking place on Apr 25, from 9am to 5pm at Restoran Budaya Sarawak, Steamship Building, Kuching Waterfront. Choose from the Special Effects Make-up or Actor’s workshop, or join both! The workshops are FREE to join but limited to 80 participants only, so hurry up and register by sending an email to [email protected]. Kindly provide your name, contact and preferred workshop session.
Party by The River
Head to the Kuching Waterfront Extension next to Grand Margherita Hotel from 7pm to 11pm on Apr 26, where a Borneo-style welcome to AIFFA delegates will take place. This FREE public event is your chance to party to awesome performances by Sarawakian and ASEAN artistes and catch some of your favourite stars too! Horror fans ought to grab this opportunity to watch a free premier screening of horror flick “Nightmare in Bali: Kajeng Kliwon”.
Feast your eyes or show em what you’ve got
Browse the AIFFA Exhibition booths at the Old Courthouse Walkway from Apr 26-27, 9am to 5pm and to discover everything from film-related exhibits to sale of ASEAN or local Sarawak products. If you have your films, products or services to promote, by all means do so. But space is limited so it’s best to register your interest NOW by emailing to [email protected]. See what’s new in the industry
Launch of AIFFA Exhibits, which also include talks on digitalisation in films from 9am to 5pm on Apr 26. It’s a great opportunity for you to find out what’s the latest goings-on in the film industry, especially in the era of digital technology. It’s open to delegates and the public and is held at the Old Courthouse Event Hall. You’ll need to register your participation via email to [email protected], with your name and contact provided.
See the stars, or be a star yourself!
The Gala Night is the icing on the AIFFA 2019 cake. This ticketed event is open to the public but with limited seating so you’ll need to register NOW at [email protected], stating your name, contact details and number of tickets required. It’s your best chance to see film stars, artistes and film directors, producers and people from the film industry all in one place. There will be jaw-dropping performances and the much-awaited awards show. Wanna see the celebs up-close? Catch them at the red carpet event before the gala.
The Gala Night is also your chance to dress like the stars do, with glitzy gowns and slick suits so you’ll blend right in with the celebrities. Remember, in an event like this, there’s no such thing as overdressing.
