Pineapple & Borneo
Fruits Festival 2017
November 18-26, 2017
Dewan Suarah Sarikei

Held since 2003, Sarikei’s annual Pineapple Festival was rebranded to Pineapple and Borneo Fruits Festival at the 2014 edition of the fest, launched then by Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, who was Minister of Tourism Sarawak at that time. The rebranding was done in line with Sarikei’s vision to become the ‘Food Basket of Sarawak’. It also makes complete sense to have a new name for the festival seeing that it showcases more than just pineapples, which Sarikei is very well known for.

The organisers came up with the festival in 2003 after seeing how so many people loved Sarikei’s deliciously sweet and juicy pineapples. The festival continues to attract people from as far as Kuching, Miri, Sibu and other parts of Sarawak to be part of the merriment. Here, visitors have the opportunity to check out different species of pineapple, such as the popular ‘Moris’ pineapple, ‘Paun’ pineapple and ‘Madu’ pineapple.

Besides shopping for pineapples to bring home for everyone to enjoy, visitors can also check out various activities lined up as part of the festival. There will be trade shows, dance performances, live entertainment by specially invited singers and bands, children’s activities and sale of food and beverages. One of the must-see activities is a cooking competition, in which pineapple is a must-have ingredient. Vendors who have their stall set up at the festival will also stand a chance to win attractive prizes if their stall is chosen as the most attractive.

The 2017 edition of the Pineapple and Borneo Fruits Festival is scheduled to be held from Nov 18 to 26. Activities will be held at Dewan Suarah Sarikei and within the vicinity of the Sarikei Central Market. The great thing about this festival is that after visitors are done going around and looking at the stalls and various activities held for the day, they can check out some local produce and other interesting finds at the Central Market itself.
